Native American painter, Merritt Johnson depicts her ideas on borders and territory in Buffalo Vector. From the path of the bison that have been driven to the protected spaces of Yellowstone National Park and that of the forces of nature man cannot control…the flight of seeds, birds. Yet red blurred line suggests the lack of control to keep the buffalo from crossing the actual boundaries - those political lines tied to their protection.

‘On Your Face’ 2013 was quite demanding since it was very complex to achieve and hid a lot of technical difficulties. Still the images have not been altered with the help of retouching software and all food was applied directly on my face. She challenges herself by placing the food directly on her face, preventing her from seeing what she is doing.
